What is Iwate Lovers?
An organization that connects Iwate and Yokohama National University

Iwate x Yokohama
Activity details

"Iwate Lovers" is a student-recruiting project from Yokohama National University.
We were established in April 2022 with the aim of visiting various regions, companies, and organizations in Iwate Prefecture and the Tohoku region, which are geographically and culturally different from those of us who usually study in Yokohama, to find unique Iwate initiatives and regional issues that share common with Yokohama, and then disseminate this information to universities and the surrounding areas.
In 2022, members visited various parts of Iwate and Tohoku with the goal of "getting to know Iwate and forming connections with Iwate."
Their main activities include participating in "regionally-oriented internships" held in the Ninohe region, Kuzumaki Town, Iwaizumi Town, and other areas of Iwate Prefecture, where they experience and visit the region's unique industries and tourist spots, as well as conducting interviews. Through these internships, Iwate Lovers members have gained a wide range of experiences, from caring for dairy cows and other livestock animals, making processed foods such as yogurt, and helping with town revitalization while wearing mascot costumes. In addition to internships, they also sometimes visit Morioka City, Ofunato City, Rikuzentakata City, and other cities with the cooperation of local residents.
Through these activities, such as exhibiting at Yokohama National Day held in November 2022 and creating pamphlets, we are sharing the attractions of Iwate and the challenges we face from the perspective of students with people at Yokohama National University and in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
Furthermore, Iwate Lovers plans to cooperate with and collaborate with the Red Carpet Project, which is active in the Sanriku region, planting camellia seedlings on land that has been unused since the earthquake disaster, selling products made from the grown leaves, and supporting local elementary and junior high school students, among others, to expand its activities in the future.
